Nutrition Therapy is generally covered when provided by a licensed nutritionist (LDN) and prescribed/referred by a physician for “medical nutrition therapy.”
This may include medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for:
- Chronic Kidney Disease
- Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol)
- Thyroid Disorders
- Other Chronic Diseases
I will provide you with a superbill, an itemized form reflecting services for you to submit to insurance for reimbursement.
Medicare is now covering counseling services for diabetes, preventive care/wellness visit and obesity only.
The procedure for submittal of the claim is the same as above.
When signing up for Medicare, you are allowed a free wellness visit up to $250.
Any portion of the visit can be allocated for nutritional services if accompanied with a doctor’s prescription with the words “wellness visit.”
Reimbursement is not guaranteed and is a function of your insurance plan.
